The Audit Analytics Certificate Program is an “add-on” to the MACCY program and a set of service courses for the Professional Accounting MBA program. It is also available as a self-contained, non-matriculated set of courses for professionals seeking to update their analytic skills and promote change toward a modern audit.

Audit Analytics (22:010:688)

This is a graduate-level course at Rutgers Business School that introduces students to the use of data analytics and modern technology tools in auditing. The course aims to help students understand how analytics can enhance internal and external audit processes, including risk assessment, audit planning, testing procedures, and internal control evaluation. Students learn both the theoretical foundations of audit analytics and gain hands-on experience with industry tools, particularly low-code/no-code platforms such as Alteryx and Tableau, which enable auditors to analyze financial data without extensive programming knowledge.

Special Topics in Audit Analytics (22:010:690)

This course aims to further improve students’ analytic skills and to promote changes in the profession towards realizing a modern audit suited to the current business environment. This course consists of two parts: methodology and practice. The first part of the courseis intended to develop students’ understanding of data and data-related statistical inferences. Students will learn how to apply basic statistical models and data mining techniques to auditing problems, how to interpret the results, and how to troubleshoot some common problems. The second part of the course covers specialized topics onhow various audit analytic techniques are applied in real-world audit scenarios using various software for related topics.

Information Risk Management in Accounting (22:010:627)

This is a graduate-level course that introduces students to how organizations identify, evaluate, and manage risks related to information systems, cybersecurity, and business operations. The course focuses particularly on the accounting context, helping students understand how information risks can affect financial reporting, compliance, and organizational decision-making.The course begins with foundational concepts in enterprise risk management (ERM) and key professional frameworks such as COSO ERM. It then explores practical topics including evaluating risks in accounting information systems, mitigating security risks, understanding SOC 2 reports, and analyzing the relationship between risk management, internal controls, and internal audit functions. Later topics also address emerging issues such as artificial intelligence and risk, privacy and confidentiality, and risk management software tools.

Alternative / Can substitute for Special Topics (with approval)

Research Project in Audit Analytics (22:010:635)

This course is the capstone of the audit analytics sequence/ certificate. It aims at allowing the student to apply some of the methods learned in the sequence to an original problem with individual advice of a faculty member. The student will either bring a problem/ dataset from his/her company or will have this provided by the faculty. The work will be surrounded by a tailored list of readings and required statistical / computer work.
