In 1983, the Sport Literature Association was formed in the United States
and began to publish Arete: The Journal of Sport Literature,
which soon became Aethlon: The Journal of Sport Literature. The
Association has done much to promote the study of sport literature. Much
of the research has been devoted to writings about sport that have been
written by men about the experiences of males in sport. However,
in recent years, more and more creative works and scholarly analysis pertaining
to the female experience in sport have been published in Aethlon (Refer
to a special issue of the journal that was devoted exclusively to the female
experience in sport – Volume XV, Issue 1, Fall, 1997.)
