RE: Beware the Epstein Message!!!

An additional security measure on this issue is to remove lists such as this
from one's mailbox. Having a list such as this in your "Contacts" etc.
folder serves as a great point of infection.

Thanks,
Dan Corcoran

Hi Michael

Not quite "without the knowledge of the user." For the virus to be
activated the user has to open the received file. If the user has some
basic security on their machine, e.g., show file extensions for example, it
should highlight to the user that the file being received at least appears
suspect. In the case of the Sircam virus the files being received have two
extensions.

Furthermore, if people set their email programs for delayed sending of
emails the opportunity arises again for suspect activity to be identified.

Also in the case of many of these virus, the user should query why someone
is sending them a file, which is most likely going to seem odd to them.

Finally, all computer users should be running up to date (the emphasis here
on up to date) virus scanners and definitions.

Andrew Priest
